Visualizing a Hit
I have this argument with people all the time. Can cultural artifacts typically associated with human emotion or creativity, such as aural (e.g. music) or visual (e.g. paintings) art be algorithmically created or otherwise reduced to a formula which any person (or thing!) can follow? The answer to me is obviously YES! Most creative types will balk at the idea (lest their own existence be threatened by a mere machine). They will argue that all artistic pursuits require the je-ne-sais-quoi of human creativity; that thing which makes humans uniquely special in this big old universe of ours.
*yawn* Don’t make me laugh. When art made by monkeys is sold for thousands, and artificial intelligences can pass the artistic Turing Test (AARON), then I’m not sure that there’s much more to talk about. Sorry, creative people.
So here we have yet another great example of how pop music just follows that same old formula, decade after decade. Good to know that the mainstream still appreciates true creativity ;)
